Behind the Sweat: Bootcamp & Strength.

A few months ago, I released a blog that explained how exercise burns body fat and briefly dove into how each McClure Fitness class can help you through your weight loss journey.

But, if you’ve worked out with me or kept up with my blogs, you already know that working out is about so much more than just burning fat and losing weight. There are so many other physical and mental benefits that you can gain from exercise.

Focusing specifically on our two most intense types of classes – Bootcamp & Lift – we’re going to talk about what’s happening “behind the sweat,” or in other words, on what’s happening to your body during these classes and the benefits you can expect to gain from each workout.

Bootcamp Classes (Intervals, Fat Blaster & Shred Classes)

Bootcamp classes can be pretty intimidating. With moves like squats, lunges, push-ups, burpees, and jumping jacks, Bootcamp is a full-body workout that combines cardio, strength training, and agility exercises.

I bet that some of you just read the word “burpees” and were tempted to stop scrolling. Don’t!

Bootcamp is intense, BUT with that intensity also comes real results that are quick and impressive. Like we say on the mic, ain’t no body like a Bootcamp body” because it’s tight and lean and LOOKS REAL GOOD!

But you may be asking, Marietta, how come Bootcamp leads to such crazy results?

The results I’m referring to are from spurts of HIIT (high-intensity interval training) such as sprints, burpees, and plyometrics; just 20 minutes of HIIT produces fat-burning results in your body for the next 24 hours. So, when you’re sitting at your desk and start feeling sore hours after your workout, that means your body is STILL burning fat!

So, just 20 minutes of HIIT burns the same amount of fat as it if you ran for 90 minutes. Would you rather spend 20 minutes or 90 minutes burning fat? GIVE ME THE 20!

During a Bootcamp class, with every move, your body is being challenged and pushed to become stronger and more resilient. You’re heart will be pounding, and you’ll be drenched in sweat, breathing heavy, and feeling the BURN.

And, of course, the health benefits of Bootcamp classes also extend beyond physical fitness. The high-intensity nature of the workout releases endorphins, which are natural mood boosters, helping you feel more energized, focused, and confident throughout the rest of your day.

If you’re looking level up so you can reach your fitness goals faster, consider giving a Bootcamp class a try.

Lift & Strength Classes

Lift & strength classes help us do our daily activities well. Think about lifting the heaviest thing you might have to and doing it like a boss instead of spending the afternoon on a heating pad loaded up with ibuprofen. And just imagine, LESS TRIPS to and from the car after your trip to the grocery store!

Another VERY important reason to strength train is to keep your body parts where God intended for them to be. As you enter your 30s, your body slowly loses a little bit of muscle each year, and it is exchanged into fat.

Ugh. You know what I’m talking about.

Little groupings of fat start hanging out where you hate them the most: your tummy, thighs, & butt. But if you’re over 30, you already knew what areas I was going to name. So annoying, right? These areas become the places where you want to lose it the most (P.S. beware of targeted weight loss programs).

Bootcamp will help with the fat loss, but I strength train to keep my body parts where they started. That means that muscle loss is not inevitable, in fact, it’s preventable!

And, like Bootcamp classes, lift & strength classes can also have mental health benefits. As you build muscle, you can walk away from each workout feeling stronger and more confident.

So, if you’re looking to gain muscle, get stronger, and, like I said, keep your body from getting saggy, get to strength training today!

Wait – What About Spin, Hip-Hop Cardio, & Barre?

The truth is, I love each of our class types so much that I couldn’t fit every juicy detail into just one blog.

So, don’t worry. I’m not leaving anyone out. Stay tuned for a pt. 2 featuring our spin, hip-hop cardio, & barre classes.
